While tidying up your house before a move might seem a bit counterintuitive (why would you need to clean, if you’re moving anyway?) it is actually an extremely useful step.?
Not only will cleaning help you take inventory and start thinking about what you want to take and what to leave behind, it will also help you to keep your belongings as organized as possible, so that, when the time comes, all you will need to do is crack out the bubble wrap and pack everything into its respective box.
Begin by cleaning out storage areas like the garage, the attic, the basement or the closet.
Take the time to sort through your forgotten clutter and see if you’re going to be using any of these items in the future. If the answer is yes, pack them up to move with you. Anything that you aren’t really going to use ever again can be donated to a charity shop, resold or given away using a service like freecycle, or even thrown away, if it’s in too poor of a condition.
If this is the case, however, always remember to recycle.
Once you’re finished with the storage areas ,it’s time to move on to the rest of the house. While it isn’t quite time to pack up yet, you may want to begin preparing, by putting away the smaller and less necessary items like wall decorations or figurines, rugs, etc. This will make cleaning a bit simpler. Simply begin by packing these and you will see that when the time comes to pack up everything else, it will be much easier. For this step you will need some room, which has been cleared out to use as storage, so that the boxes don’t get in the way during your remaining time at the location.
After all of this is packed away, it’s time for a thorough cleaning ? you don’t really have to wash the windows, but take the time to wash everything you will be taking with you, clean the sofas, dust everything and generally make it easier to handle. Don’t forget your garden furniture as well. It all depends on your particular needs, but in any case, an overall cleaning before you move out will make the subsequent house relocation much easier.
